Three Miracles (Week 78)

I love the mission.

This week was so incredible, my testimony is growing as the time passes of this great work and of the promise made in Doctrine and Covenants 4:4. The field truly is white and ready to harvest!

On Tuesday we had the mission's leadership council and a lot was spoken about the youth and how we should be looking to bring these special spirits to the Lord's fold. All the leaders of the mission who are converts shared their conversion story and it was incredible to see the variety of their stories and the way that God worked with each one and their families!

Last week I forgot to tell you about Kauam (14). He is one of Gustavo's friends and we found him playing football in the street two Saturdays ago. We invited him to go to church and spoke with his mum. The next day, unexpectedly, he actually came with us to church! We returned on Monday and taught the restoration to him and his family. We made the baptismal invite for everyone there and Kauam was the first to accept - that is, if he got the answer from God. The next day we saw him on the street again and asked if he had read the Book of Mormon. He said: "Yeah, I read it and prayed. I asked about the Book of Mormon and received my answer that it's true. I also prayed about baptism and I dreamed I was being baptised in youth camp." *jawdrop* We had commented with him that the youth would be in camp this weekend and were very excited that he had received such clear and direct revelation. During the first lesson we promised, that just as Joseph Smith received an answer to his prayer, Kauam would get his answer if he asked sincerely. And he did!

His mother said that she would allow him to be baptised but we would have a hard time getting her husband to agree. All his family goes to the "Christian Congregation" church and let me tell you, they aren't the easiest people to speak to. We went there on Friday to speak with Kauam's dad and as we began to speak about baptism, I had the impression that we should speak about the Plan on Salvation. So I got out my little drawings and that's what we taught. We then asked once more if he would let his son be baptised in camp. Kauam looked to his dad and said: "Dad, I had a dream!" and he thought for a few seconds and then authorized the baptism. It was a testimony builder of following the spirit in teaching! :)

On Saturday, Kauam went off to camp with the youth of the stake and on Sunday all of Kauam's family came to the meetings in church. We were so happy to see the whole family there, even the father who was initially a bit apprehensive about meeting the church! On Sunday afternoon we went with them to the camp site and held the baptismal meeting. The youth of the whole Sorocaba stake was there and the spirit was very strong!

Wellington, a boy who's been a member for a year, baptised Kauam in the pool! What a unique experience they both had! :)

Robson, who I told you about last time, continued very firm for his baptism the whole week. He read the Book of Mormon and is already in the middle of 1 Nephi. He invited the mother of his children to come to his baptism in the hopes of reconquering her heart and marrying her! He is incredible and we did little in his process of conversion. He was searching very earnestly to become better and the Lord guided us to speak with him at exactly the right moment. Love this guy!

Eron, the masterchef who I told you about last week, was VERY hard to find this week. We called and called and called, we visited his house on many occasions but were never able to find him. On Saturday, Elder Braga felt we should try visiting him in the morning and that's what we did. Imagine our joy when we saw his head popping out of the window and saying: "Come in!". We started chatting and he said that he had been reading the Book of Mormon and was very excited for his baptism. But then he gave us the news that he was gonna have a mega event at work which would really boost his career. He was going to attend sacrament meeting but would be unable to be baptised afterwards as he would have to shoot off to work. We were very sad but understood. At night we received a phone call from him. He said: "Elders, after you left I was in a motorcycle accident on the way to work and just arrived home from the hospital. I got 6 stitches on my head but I'm better. You can tell the other Elder to come interview me tomorrow morning. I not going to work anymore." The Lord sure has many ways of working with his children and perhaps that huge wake up call in Eron's life was necessary. He was baptised by the member who first met his last week and passed the referral to us. What a miracle.

This week, Gustavo's mum Maria Lucia went to church for the first time and she has a baptismal date for Sunday. Please pray for her and all the other people who went to church, including Kauam's parents and siblings!

I love you all and I love the Lord and His work!
